What you need to know about the Windows operating system

ByteHub.com.ng – There is a lot of negligence that occurs in society, especially among computer users who are still unfamiliar with the Windows Operating System. For this reason, in this article, ByteHub.com.ng  wants to write down several things that computer users need to clarify and know.

Of course, you all know, bro, what is Windows?

Windows or Microsoft Windows is an operating system developed by the Microsoft Corporation. Here I will not discuss the history of Windows, but just for general information, Microsoft began to enter the realm of Operating Systems starting in 1980.

In that year, Microsoft released the Unix operating system with the Xenix version. But what is familiar is MS-DOS. Well, MS-DOS itself was originally an operating system created in collaboration with IBM, the CP/M OS version. Then changed the name to MS-DOS.

Over time, Microsoft Windows has now developed to the current version of Windows 10.

You can just look for the complete history on Wikipedia, bro.

Well, currently Windows OS users are increasing. From data submitted by Microsoft, in January 2016 alone Windows 10 users had reached 200 million computers. These are just Windows 10 users, you know, not Windows 7 and 8 yet.

But the problem is not how many users there are. But not many people know that Microsoft Windows is...

#1 Paid Operating System

Yes, did you know that Windows OS is a paid operating system? Where, if you want to install it on a computer or notebook, you have to buy a license and original Microsoft Windows first?

"Well, usually when I'm told to install Windows, I only pay IDR 50 thousand - IDR 100 thousand, right?"

That means you are using a pirated Windows operating system.

It is common knowledge that currently there are many pirated Windows users. Because usually, many people don't think that Windows is actually a paid operating system.

Sometimes this problem is overlooked in the world of education. Where a teacher neglects to tell you that you have to buy Windows first if you want to use it.

The price itself depends on the version. For example, Windows 7 Professional 64-bit costs around IDR 1.5 million, while Windows 10 Home costs around IDR 1.6 million.

#2 Easy to Get Viruses

Even though Microsoft has released a video claiming that Windows 10 is the safest version of Windows, it can still be subject to virus attacks. Because many Windows 10 users have been affected by various viruses.

Why is Windows vulnerable to viruses?

There are many factors, starting from the core system design which uses DOS, then not allowing full multi-user, and many more.

So Windows users are strongly advised to install Anti Virus. And usually, antivirus is also paid. Even if there are free ones, the results are not optimal. And you're spending more money, bro.

#3 Rarely Can Be Repaired

Problems will definitely arise in the Windows operating system, whether due to user error, system errors, or also caused by viruses. Well, if it's like this, Windows OS will usually be difficult to repair.

Actually, you can, but it's not as easy as repairing the operating system on Linux. This is because Windows OS is not an open-source operating system, so sometimes to fix it you have to do an INUL (Reinstall).

But if you want, in Windows there is a System Restore feature. Where if there is trouble you can return to the condition or time before the error. For example, if the problem occurs today, you can go back to previous days. As long as System Restore is activated.

Unfortunately, if you look at tips for avoiding viruses in Windows, one way is to disable System Restore. Confused, right? :D

#4 The majority of supporting software and applications are paid

This is the majority, yes, but if you are observant, you can use freeware software or applications. One of the paid and widely used applications is still a Microsoft product, namely Microsoft Office.

Yes, you also need to know that Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Publisher, PowerPoint, etc.) is also paid, not free. If you are currently installing it for free, it means it is pirated.

Actually, if you want to use there are lots of free ones. For example, to replace Microsoft Office, you can use WPS Office. Just search on Google, the appearance and menu are almost the same as Microsoft Office.

#5 One License One User

As explained above, Windows OS is paid, and one license can only be used for one user or computer device. Actually, it can also be used for many computers, but it's still illegal.

Those are some things you need to know about the Windows operating system.

In Indonesia itself, there are currently many Windows OS users, but there are also many who use pirated versions. Seeing this phenomenon, several parties and open source actors such as the Indonesian Open Source Association (AOSI) continue to educate the public so that they switch to Open Source software and operating systems that can be obtained for free.

But this is not simply prohibiting the use of Windows. If you really have more funds, please just use Windows to buy the license. But if there are no funds, open-source software is the solution.
