Leica M11: 60MP Rangefinder with “Triple Resolution” Technology
Leica has finally introduced its newest rangefinder camera product, namely the Leica M11. This camera has the advantage of a 60MP sensor and has " Triple Resolution " technology.
With the launch of the M11, Leica claims that this will become a new benchmark in the world of photography as a camera with the most flexible M-System in the history of digital photography.
60 Megapixel Sensor with "Triple Resolution" Technology
Leica seems to be very proud of this new product. How could it not be, this rangefinder camera combines traditional rangefinder technology with modern camera technology. What is really superior about the M11 is of course its "Triple Resolution" technology.
This camera uses a full-frame BSI ( backside-illuminated ) CMOS sensor with an extended ISO range.
This "Triple Resolution" technology is capable of taking raw (RAW) images in DNG and JPEG formats recorded at 60, 36 and 18-megapixel resolutions without changing the full-frame sensor area.
With this technology, it will certainly really pamper photographers to be able to get image quality that remains sharp and has detailed resolution. This lower resolution also makes the camera performance much faster and can make longer bursts.
Leica also offers an electronic shutter that can take images at speeds up to 1/16,000 second. With this speed, it will certainly make users more confident when working with wide apertures in bright light without using an ND filter.
The Leica M11 has an ISO sensitivity range of between 64 to 50,000 and can record at 14-bit color depth with a dynamic range of up to 15 stops.
This M11 processor uses a Leica Maestro III which according to him has a smooth and responsive operating experience, even when used for high-resolution photography.
Changes to Physical Design
There are slight changes to the Leica M11. One of them is the removal of the traditional baseplate at the bottom of the camera. Leica reasons that the removal of this baseplate makes it easier for users to open or remove the battery and SD card slot.
Talking about SD cards, the M11 has an SD card slot that is compatible with UHS-II SD cards and 64 GB of internal storage. This means that the Leica M11 is the first Leica M-Series camera to offer two storage simultaneously, namely via SD Card and internal memory.
However, overall, the Leica M11 maintains the traditional aspects of the M-Series. Starting from the unique layout and menu structure, the M11 remains consistent with the Leica SL2 and Q2.
The top of the Leica M11 has a top plate made of high-quality aluminum and is scratch-resistant.
Leica M11 Features
Leica M11 comes with lots of features. In terms of battery, the M11 has an 1800 mAh battery, 64% more than the previous generation.
The USB-C port on the M11 also allows for direct charging with a USB Type-C universal charger.
In mid-2022, the Leica M11 will receive the latest firmware update which will improve its connectivity. Later, users will be faster in connecting the M11 with a smartphone via the Leica FOTOS application. And allows users to embed location data in photos.
There are additional accessories when the Leica M11 is launched. The first is the Visoflex 2, which is an electronic viewfinder that will improve the user experience. From this viewfinder, users can view photo objects from a 3.7-megapixel resolution screen via Live View mode.
Visoflex 2 is also supported by diopter adjustment between -4 to +3 and a 90-degree tilt function.
Currently, the Leica M11 can be ordered for $8,995 or around Rp. 128 million.
